Part-Time Assistant Choral Conductor
Position Overview:
The organization seeks a part-time Assistant Choral Conductor. The Assistant Choral Conductor will assist in
leading assigned chorus(es) of Young Voices of Austin. When program is in session the time commitment for
this position will include two evenings a week, six to eight Saturdays, in addition to part-time office hours.
Part-time summer hours will require flexibility and will be determined closer to the date.
Location​: Austin, Texas
Qualifications/Requirements:
● Bachelor of Arts degree (required) in choral conducting or music education
● Experience in choral conducting and teaching ages 6-18 (or desire to so)
● Knowledge of and competence in choral conducting all styles of music
● Piano competency
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills
● Ability to work as a member of an expanding and diverse team
● Ability to work independently and with initiative in accomplishing any necessary tasks
● Attention to detail and problem solving skills
● Strong organizational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment
● Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
● A desire to work in multiple environments
● Experience with a variety of office software (Finale, email tools, spreadsheets, graphic design, and
databases)
The mission of Young Voices of Austin (YVA) is to provide high-quality music education to a racially and
socioeconomically diverse population of children ages 6 to 18. Musical instruction includes rigorous
sight-singing and ear-training, general musical literacy, vocal technique, and stage presence and movement.
Choristers learn to analyze scores from many styles and traditions, and to sing texts in many different
languages from around the world. YVA’s curriculum is consistent with national standards, at tiered levels
designed to reinforce lessons and increase challenge and achievement as choristers progress. The choral
literacy and performance curriculum of YVA is led by highly skilled and trained conductors. The mission is
enhanced by a commitment to academic achievement, including assistance with identifying and applying to
colleges, tutoring, guidance on auditions and essay-writing, and SAT/ACT preparation. Young Voices of Austin
is committed not only to creating stronger musicians but stronger people, empowering the voices of Austin’s
youngest citizens so that they may become its future leaders.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Choral Conductor include, but are not limited to:
● Assisting with programming repertoire for the assigned ensemble(s) of the organization
● Preparing the assigned ensemble(s) in rehearsal
● Assisting the rehearsal preparation of all ensembles, as requested
● Assisting with concerts and performances for all ensembles
● Assisting with the audition process and selection of new choristers
● Assisting with the design of a coherent curriculum for all ensembles of the organization and ensuring its
implementation in all rehearsals
● Helping to set the standard for artistic excellence in the organization
The Assistant Choral Conductor reports to the organization’s Artistic Director.

The Assistant Choral Conductor works closely with the Artistic Director and Executive Director to promote,
sustain, and build support of the organization in the community.
Compensation​:
