Part-time Community Choral Director

at River City Pops in Austin Metro Area

The Artistic/Music Director oversees the musical and production aspects of River City Pops along with the Board of Directors. The Artistic/Music Director leads group auditions, specialty and solo auditions and helps shape the artistic vision of the group and our shows. The Artistic/Music Director is responsible for teaching all of the music involved in the show and/or gigs, and helps lead all band rehearsals with the band director. The Artistic/Music Director may also be called upon to arrange scores and orchestrations of music for shows and/or gigs throughout the year. This position will work closely with the Board to ensure the group is fully prepared for each performance and will organize rehearsals accordingly.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities – Artistic and Music Director

Rehearsal and Performances:
Facilitates warm-ups for practices and performances
Teaches/conducts music at assigned rehearsals
Conducts group at performances as deemed necessary by the Board
Works closely with the accompanist and Band Director at rehearsals
Works with specialty groups on musical aspects of their numbers
Provide recordings, guide vocal tracks, music compiling, arranging and accompaniment tracks
Work periodically as group accompanist during rehearsals
Determine vocal assignments for the group

Artistic Direction:
Attends meetings held for the purpose of selection of arrangements and music (Artistic Director Fee)
Acts as a judge for specialty and solo selection (Artistic Director Fee)
Contribute to the artistic and production teams during tech/performance week

Management:
Auditions new members with the Board of Directors
Coordinate music decisions with the Band Director
May be asked to attend special board meetings and weigh in on special issues as deemed necessary by the Board
Prompt and professional communication with group and Board members


Requirements:

Music Direction and Skills:
Experience programming and hosting musical productions and revues
Experience teaching music to a variety of levels of expertise and ability
In-depth knowledge of music
Ability to effectively train and lead musicians
Experience in artistic direction of musical productions
Ability to create arrangements of music appropriate for our group and band instrumentation

Professional Conduct and Skills:
Ability to use computers/Slack/Google Suite products
Strong communication skills and ability to respond to Board correspondence in a timely manner
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion
Strong organizational skills for planning and leading rehearsals and relaying up-to-date information to the group
