Full-time Choral Director, Head

PURPOSE: To develop, coordinate, and oversee all musical elements of the Traditional Worship Services at Grace Presbyterian Church with a focus on equipping the congregation for a life of growing discipleship. To serve as a collaborative part of the Music Ministry Team to make Jesus visible by leading worship focused on glorifying God and forming disciples.

ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Director of Worship and Liturgy.

Leadership and Vision: Provide musical leadership for both Traditional Worship services. Select choral music and other musical elements that serve our vision to equip disciples who make disciples. Participate fully as a member of the Music Ministry Team, both in a spirit of collaboration as well as attendance at weekly check-in and development meetings.

Worship Leadership: Conduct the three groups that lead in Traditional worship (Chancel Choir weekly, Encore Choir 4-5 times/year, and Chancel bells 4-5 times/year). Lead the congregation through special music and corporate song in order to help graft them into the life of the gospel.

Worship Preparation: Select choral (weekly) and handbell (4-5 times/year) music for rehearsals and for weekly Sunday morning worship. Work with Director of Worship in selection of special music for combined, single service Sundays. Participate in weekly worship planning meeting with Senior Pastor and other program staff. Utilize Planning Center to design traditional worship services 3 months in advance. Lead each ensemble in their weekly rehearsals and in other special rehearsals and performances. Create publicity for Traditional Music Ministries for the church and the community-at-large, as needed.

Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral care to ensemble members through weekly devotional times, mission and vision communication, making phone calls and visits to ensemble members as needed, sending birthday and get well cards, and by living into our vision to equip disciples who make disciples.

Special Worship and Concert Leadership: Provide leadership for specialized or seasonal Traditional worship services, such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, Easter, and other special services. Provide leadership for seasonal concerts. Assist, as needed, with Grace Kids Music. Serve as a resource to groups within the church where requested. Serve as choral director and worship co-director on Sundays when Traditional and Contemporary Services are combined, in collaboration with the Director of Worship and the Director of Contemporary Worship.

Volunteer/Staff Leadership: Provide necessary leadership and nurture strong relationships with members of ensembles, organist, and other guest musicians. Provide leadership for continued growth and excellence within the music ministries of Traditional worship.

Traditional Worship Equipment: Oversee care and maintenance for church-owned musical instruments and equipment, including organs, piano, tympani, handbells, etc.

Budget: Provide primary administrative supervision for the operating budget for Traditional Worship, in consultation with the Director of Worship.

Grace School Worship: Serve as a resource for Grace School Chapel services, as requested.

Other Duties: Perform other duties as needed including some administrative responsibilities that support the Traditional worship ministries.

 Music Ministry Team includes Director of Worship and Liturgy, Director of Traditional Worship, Director of Contemporary Worship, Organist and Music Associate. All positions report to the Director of Worship and Liturgy.
 Ideally candidates would be able to participate in the following scheduled meetings:
• Participate in weekly Music Ministry Team meetings.
• Participate in weekly Worship Planning meetings.
• Participate in monthly Full Staff meetings.
• Participate in monthly Session meetings, as requested.
• Meet regularly with the Gather Team and its appropriate sub-teams, anticipated to be no more than monthly.

Reports to Director of Worship and Liturgy, with support from a Music Associate (P/T) and Organist/Accompanist (P/T).
